Living Documentary:
Water Tells Stories Through People
Water Tells Stories Through People is part of a “living documentary” series under the direction of Kendall Moore and a team of artists, designers, musicians, and technicians from the Graduate School of Oceanography’s Inner Space Center. Living documentaries functions much like a film/television documentary but are live theatrical performances. They feature storytellers, art, music, full wall projections, and animations. The Water Tells Stories Through People performances feature storytellers from various walks of life interweaving personal narratives about their historical, personal, and cultural relationships to water. Together, they communicate the complex relationship between humans and water, focusing on environmental justice, cultural heritage, and the vital role of water in sustaining life. Water Tells Stories Through People, originating at the University of Rhode Island, was performed with different casts in Rhode Island, Baltimore, and New Orleans.
